Unassuming Barber Shop: Captain America

There is a new installment of my comics history column up today over at The Beat.

This one is on Captain America. And it’s big. Go read it.

I was lucky enough to see some of the filming for Cap 2 when they were here in Cleveland. But it’s different to see Natalia “Natasha” Alianovna Romanova standing right in front of you instead of on a comic page or projected onto a screen. It wasn’t just the costumes, either. To see them act as these characters, without irony, was really kind of surreal. I’m not complaining. There’s something to that suspension of belief being played out in reality that validates everything we imagined about these characters when we first read them. We knew there had to be some truth there. Turns out there was.
