Why Superman? GOTTA…

A new revival of the Superman musical “It’s a Bird … It’s a Plane … It’s Superman” just finished a short run at the New York City Center — to good reviewsSupermanhomepage.com links to a T.A. Ewart interview with Edward Watts, the production’s Superman (who has now assured himself years of con appearances and direct messages from Superfans on Twitter). [UPDATED with a late, but very positive review at The Beat].

The show itself premiered in 1966, and like every single thing associated with Siegel & Shuster, swirls with lots of depressing, mythical stories. Almost as if the worst possible version of the story — a story — makes us feel better because it makes more sense.  Joe was there.

I’m not really “Broadway Guy,” but would have liked to have seen it. Hoping not to miss this one, though:

THE MIGHTY KONG FROWNS AND IS DRESSED LIKE BATMAN = IN.
