Brad Ricca lives and works in Cleveland. He is a SAGES fellow who teaches classes on writing, comics, popular culture, and narrative biography at Case Western Reserve University, where he received his Ph.D. in English and is a recipient of the Richard A. Bloom, M.D. Award for Distinguished Teaching. He also teaches at the Cleveland Institute of Art. His latest book is the first literary biography of the creators of Superman, Super Boys: The Amazing Adventures of Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster – The Creators of Superman, named to several year-end lists, including a Top 10 Book on the Arts for 2013 by Booklist and a 2014 Ohioana Book Award in Nonfiction. He is the Vice-President of the Siegel and Shuster Foundation, a local non-profit organization and is a frequent contributor to media outlets such as NPR, the BBC, and others about comics and pop culture. He has presented at meetings all over the world, including in Oxford, Kyoto, and at the San Diego Comic-Con. He won the St. Lawrence Book Award for his first book of poetry, American Mastodon, which was featured on A Writer’s Almanac with Garrison Keillor. Ricca’s first documentary film, Last Son, won a Silver Ace Award at the Las Vegas International Film Festival. Ricca won a Cleveland Arts Prize in Literature for Emerging Artist of 2014.
